RECYCLE HEART & SOLE

Valentine’s Day is a day to open up your heart and share your love.  And, again this year, sharing your love could include sharing your gently used shoes…so what do old shoes have to do with sharing the love? We are so glad you asked!  Donate your old, outgrown or “so late year” shoes to our Recycle Heart and Sole program.  Your previously-destined-for-the trash shoes are greatly desired by those who have none.  The Solid Waste District then donates those shoes to people in other countries in need.  In the past, we have collected 7,000 pairs of shoes in just one week!

Shoes will be collected at participating Hendricks County schools until February 14th to send to souls in need of your soles in developing countries.  All shoes (except slippers, inline skates or ice skates, winter boots, cleats, and shoes with over a 2-inch heel) will be accepted.  The following is a list of drop-off points:

·         Danville North Elementary School

·         Danville South Elementary School

·         Danville Community Middle School

·         Tri-West Middle School

·         Cardinal Elementary School

·         White Lick Elementary School

·         Brownsburg High School

·         Mill Creek East Elementary School

·         Mill Creek West Elementary School

·         Cascade Middle School

·         Avon Middle School North

·         Hickory Elementary School

·         Pine Tree Elementary School

·         Maple Elementary School

·         Sycamore Elementary School

·         Plainfield High School

·         Bethesda Christian School

·         Solid Waste District Office

If you miss out on this year’s Recycle Heart and Sole collection, you can always donate your shoes to Goodwill in Avon, Brownsburg and Plainfield.  Got cleats?  Avon Sports Apparel collects soccer cleats for reuse. Another option is Nike’s Reuse-a-Shoe program.  Shoes can be dropped-off at the Nike Factory in Edinburgh, IN.  For more information about that program, visit nikereuseashoe.com.

COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM
