Perhaps the notions of delayed gratification, perserverance and accountablity aren’t the first ideas that come to mind when you think of a kid and his bike. But, those are exactly the life skills that the good folks at Freewheelin’ Community Bikes in Indianapolis (at 34th & Central Avenue) are instilling in the kids they work with through their Earn-A-Bike program. Program participants work to earn their own bike, helmet, lock and the opportunity to become a leader in the organization.
So, how do these kids earn a bike? Well, that’s where you come in! The participants choose bikes that need some TLC from those donated to the organization from people just like you. If you have bicycles just taking up space, consider giving them a second life and support a great organization in the process. Visit Freewheelin’ Community Bikes online to learn more about their donation guidelines and process.
