Saturday, April 11th was our first Tox-Away Day for the year and it was our biggest day ever! The weather was beautiful and, thanks to many Hendricks County residents dedicated to doing the right thing with their household chemicals, medicines, tires, appliances and electronics, we were able to help 1,031 participants during the five hour event.
We were able to collect over 45,000 pounds of household hazardous waste–flammables, pesticides, batteries, solvents, pharmaceuticals and more–for proper disposal and recycling. We were also able to recycle over 15,000 pounds of appliances, 11,100 pounds of tires and more than 23,000 pounds of electronic waste (including 124 defunct printers and 95 unwanted Tvs). The grant total was nearly 95,000 pounds of material properly disposed of or recycled! Great work, Hendricks County!
The success of every Tox-Away Day relies on a great deal of cooperation. This most recent event would not have been possible without help from the following organizations:
- Hendricks County Substance Abuse Task Force
- Hendricks County Health Partnership
- Brownsburg Community School Corporation
- Brownsburg Community School Corporation Police Department
- Brownsburg Police Department
Our next Tox-Away Day will be on May 30th at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds. We’re looking forward to another great event!
