Our goal is to teach youth about waste reduction and environmental responsibility. Many of our programs meet or correlate with Indiana’s Academic Standards. This page outlines those programs that best relate to the grade level standards for your class. Review the programs listed below and contact us to schedule your program. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink
Learn the basics of recycling! What can we recycle? How can we recycle it? Where can we recycle it? And why should we recycle it?

Litter: Pick it Up, Don’t Pass it Up!
What is litter? Where does it come from? What can you do about it? Find out with this interactive litter prevention program. Weather permitting, this will include a litter clean-up around the school grounds. We will add in a new book about the affects of plastic pollution on wildlife along with a hands-on activity.

STEM Challenge: Architecture
Plan, Build, and Test a house from reused/repurposed materials with inspiration from “Iggy Peck Architect”. Students will work in teams and be given a certain amount of time and materials to construct a home.

Worms Are Still Eating My Garbage
Scheduled only Sept.- Nov. Learn about the red worm and how it turns garbage into compost. If desired, the class is left with a working vermicompost system and a “how to” book.

Treasure Walk
Go on a treasure walk with us! We will be talking about one of our favorites, “Tiny, Perfect Things” by M.H. Clark. When you look for for the tiny things, you care about them. And when you care about them, you do things to protect them.

Junkbot
Read along with us as we enjoy “The Most Magnificent Thing” by Ashley Spires. We will make our own Junkbot from reused items you might find around the house. Don’t worry if it doesn’t work the first time.

Are you interested in Environmental Programs but find you have little time to have a guest presenter? Let us help! We have developed the Traveling Environmental Programs to help you access the information and programs on a limited schedule. How Do They Do That?
What happens to the “stuff” we put in our recycling bin? It can find new life as lots of fun and useful things. This program explains the difference between making things from natural resources and recycling. Lots of samples of recycled content items are included in the program!

Re-Used Pop Bottle Terrarium
In this program we will teach students a practical approach to reuse. Students will construct their own terrarium out of an old water bottle. Students will plant seeds in their terrariums. Teachers will then be welcome to have students monitor these over time to assist with meeting first grade standards.

Compost Stew
Using a rhyming story book, this programs introduces students to the merits of waste reduction through composting. Participants witness compost in action, and work together to create a healthy compost system through an interactive model.

Jingle Bell Maze
Create your own maze with a reused shoebox and see if you can get the lost bell back home.

Book Bins
Book bins can be checked out by teachers for a two weeks or we can bring the programs to your classroom. The bin includes a book with a STEM or environmental message and materials to do a related craft or STEM Activity.

Environmental Lending Library
Please take advantage of this free program. We will deliver the traveling bin full of environmental books, videos, games and music. The bin will stay at your school for 1 month during which teachers and students can check out materials to use in the classroom!
