Our goal is to teach youth about waste reduction and environmental responsibility. Many of our programs meet or correlate with Indiana’s Academic Standards. Worms Are Still Eating My Garbage

Scheduled only Sept-Nov. Learn about the red worm and how it turns garbage into compost. If desired, the class is left with a working vermi-compost system and a “how to” book.

Recycle For Your Health!

Using a model students will discover how improper disposal and handling of hazardous materials can affect an ecosystem.

Who Polluted White Lick Creek?

For those who love a mystery, this is a real “whodunit?”. Choose from a group of suspects and find out who polluted the creek and how. This program is about responsible disposal of Household Hazardous Wastes.

“Recycled Pumpkins”

Scheduled only Sept-Nov. for schools with a working garden or out- door learning lab. Using pumpkins, your class will learn about the process of decomposition and how different factors affect the rate of it.

Create-A-Story

Students will “discover” what’s in a random bag of artifacts (reused objects) salvaged from a home and create a story using the objects for inspiration for time, setting, conflict, and character.

English/Language Arts: 6.W.3.

Packaging and Materials Engineering

Students become Materials Engineers to solve the problem of sustainably packaging common substances using different materials.

Plastic Bag Parachute STEM Activity

Using reused plastic shopping bags, students will construct a parachute that can safely land a passenger.

Santa’s Sleigh STEM Activity

Using the engineering process, students will construct a sleigh for Santa to help him deliver his gifts.

“Boat Challenge”

Using the engineering process, students will make a floating boat that can hold weight.

Dejunk Your Lunch!

Do a waste audit of your lunch and find out how to make less waste by de-junking your lunch.

Pop Bottle Science

Reinforce scientific concepts like gravity, states of matter, physical reaction, density, etc. in a fantastically fun and exciting way all while REUSING pop bottles! This is a great program to spark science fair project ideas. Warning: portions of this project will need to be done outside due to the high potential for a big mess!
